Terms of use
Draft for the beta, October 2026. In the app, Settings, Terms of use opens this page.
These are the rules for using Farandole while it is in its private beta. They are short on purpose. The app links to them on Home before your first adventure, on Before we start and on the join screen, and Settings, Terms of use, opens them at any time. When you start or join an adventure, you agree to them.
Who runs Farandole
Andreas Mavrocordatos, Luxembourg. Write to contact@farandole.app about anything on this page.
What Farandole is
Farandole turns a day in town into a game: an adult picks the tasks, teams play them around town with a phone each, and the photos come back for a reveal in the evening.
It is in a private beta, on iPhone through Apple's TestFlight and on Android from a download link, and it is free during the beta. While we build it, Farandole may change or pause, and things can go wrong, including lost data. If an adventure matters to you, download its carnet, or back up all your adventures in Settings: those files are yours to keep.
If we stop Farandole or the beta, we will say so in the app and on farandole.app at least 30 days before, so you have time to download your carnets or make a backup.
Adults in charge
Leading an adventure, linking an email and publishing for an organisation are for adults, 18 or over. The leader confirms it on Before we start.
Children play only in a team with an adult in charge of its phone, who confirms it every time that phone joins. They never get an account and never type an email.
Safety on the day
The leader is responsible for the group's safety, together with the adult in charge of each team. In particular:
- Supervise the children the whole time.
- Take care with traffic, and cross where it is safe.
- Stay off private property unless you are welcome there.
- Do not set or play a task that puts anyone at risk. If a task does not feel safe on the day, skip it. No points are worth it.
Farandole does not check the places a task sends you to, whether a leader or an organisation wrote it. A place can be closed, busy or unsafe on your day, so look for yourself.
Respect other people
- Photograph people only when they agree. For a child, ask the adult with them.
- Do not write, send or publish anything unlawful, or anything meant to hurt, scare or embarrass someone.
What you make stays yours
The tasks you write, your answers and your photos stay yours. You give Farandole only the permission it needs to run the game: to store them, to send them to the phones in your group, and to keep them on our servers when the leader keeps the adventure. We do not post them, sell them or use them for anything else. How we handle them is in our privacy policy (farandole.app/privacy).
Your adventures and our servers
Each phone keeps its own copy of an adventure. Our servers pass photos and answers between the phones, and remove the adventure 30 days after the last thing that happens in it, such as a team joining, an answer or photo, a judgement, the reveal or a release. Looking at it doesn't count. After that the adventure lives on the phones only, and we cannot bring it back; its carnet or your backup file is what protects it.
The leader can keep an adventure on our servers, so it comes back on any phone they sign in on. A kept adventure includes every team's photos and answers. Keeping needs a linked email and is part of the Farandole pass. During the beta it is free; we will say so in the app and on farandole.app at least 30 days before that changes. When the pass ends, or free keeping ends for a leader without a pass, a kept adventure is removed from our servers 30 days later, unless the pass is renewed or bought before then. A team can have its own photos and answers removed from a kept adventure: write to contact@farandole.app.
The Farandole pass is not on sale yet. When it is, families buy it only in the app, through the App Store or Google Play and under their terms; the website sells nothing. The pass renews through the store until you cancel it there.
Organisations
A tourist office or another organisation that publishes an adventure is responsible for what it says, and must hold the rights to everything in it. By publishing, it lets Farandole store the adventure and send it, under the organisation's name, to every phone that opens its code.
We may take down an adventure that breaks these terms or the law. A person reads every report; nothing is taken down automatically. To report an adventure, write to contact@farandole.app with its code and what is wrong. If we take one down, we tell the organisation why, and it can reply to the same address.
As it is, during the beta
We do our best to keep Farandole working and your data safe. During the beta it is provided as it is, without a promise that it will always work or never make a mistake.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited, such as for death or injury caused by negligence, for gross negligence, or for fraud.
Stopping
You can stop using Farandole at any time. To remove your data, go to Settings and tap Delete my data. It removes from our servers this phone's identity and every adventure you lead, photos included, then clears this phone. It needs Wi-Fi or signal; without one, nothing is deleted and the app says so. It does not cancel a Farandole pass bought in a store: cancel that in the store.
Changes
If we change these terms, we will say so in the app and on farandole.app before the change applies.
Law
Luxembourg law applies to these terms. If you use Farandole as a consumer, you keep the protection that the law of the country where you live gives you, and nothing here takes it away.
